The Griffin Takeaway, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

The Griffin Takeaway is a small takeout restaurant on 8th street in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Cody and I visited friends and family in Saskatoon in July and the food at Griffin Takeaway was some of the best we had the whole month.

It is somewhat slim pickins for Vegans in Saskatoon, so I decided to search for specifically Vegan restaurants. Although The Griffin Takeaway is not a fully Vegan restaurant, they have a fabulous selection of Vegan food, and amazing desserts!!

Nicole and Derek Barr are the owners of The Griffin Takeaway and they are completely involved in the day to day operation of their business baking and cooking all of their delicious food with the help of their employees.

Inside The Griffin Takeaway

Nicole and Derek were kind enough to have us for lunch and so we sampled quite a few of their Vegan options.

Curried Cauliflower Soup
The curried cauliflower soup was amazing, and our favourite! Such a beautiful but not overpowering curry flavour. It was a puree soup so it was very smooth and so tasty.

African Peanut Soup
The african peanut soup was also a puree soup, and very flavourful as well,

Avocado Artichoke Sandwich
In our opinion, you can’t go wrong with Avocado in anything, so we loved this sandwich. The Artichoke was really delicious and the bread was great. Everything was so fresh and light.

Hummus Sandwich
One of the best sandwiches we have ever tasted! The bread was Incredible! This sandwich is made with beans, it was was thick and heavy but at the same time so light and fluffy.
I Love this bread!

Quinoa Salad
The quinoa salad was a delicious and healthy salad mixed with cucumbers, onions, and spices. Quinoa has a nutty flavour, it is a nice change from rice, and it keeps you full for a long time.

Potato Salad
It had been over 16 months since we had a potato salad, (they are not very popular in South East Asia) so it was so great to finally get our hands on some delicious potato salad. The Potatoes were mixed with green beans, onions, and red pepper.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Nanaimo Bar
We LOVE Nanaimo bars! Especially Vegan ones! This was the very first Vegan nanaimo bar that we have ever tried and it tasted identical to any other nanaimo bar.

And this nanaimo bar was soooo yummy. Oh and we LOVE peanut butter and chocolate as well.
Next time we are in town we must try the chocolate mint nanaimo bar!!

Chocolate Chip Square
This chocolate chip square was the size of a brick! That’s how we like our desserts. Extra large. It was a really nice tasting dessert, the consistency was somewhat in between cake and a cookie. I really enjoyed it with tea.

The Griffin Takeaway is a small, independently owned local business, and we feel it is important to support these kinds of businesses as much as we can. Saskatoon is not a big city, so even if you’re not quite in the area, give them a try! The food is made with care, you can really taste the difference.

Thanks to Nicole, Derek and the staff at The Griffin Takeaway for our big lunch! We’ll be back when we return to Saskatoon!

Not too sure if we’ll ever get to Saskatoon, but if we do, we’ll definitely stop by here for a meal. The nanaimo bar looks amazing!

I’d definitely go for the Avocado Artichoke Sandwich or the Hummus one, they look delicious, the Quinoa salad too though. Tough choice! 🙂
