Vegan Kitchen, Cairo, Egypt

Vegan Kitchen, you had me at homemade almond milk.

And not only is the almond milk homemade, but most everything on the menu is.

When I thought to look up vegan restaurants in Egypt, I really didn’t think I would have much luck finding anything, but I discovered Vegan Kitchen and knew we had to visit, so the day before we flew home we took a taxi from Giza to Maadi to enjoy a vegan lunch.

Alaa and Yasmine are a lovely young Egyptian vegan couple who are passionate about sustainability and the environment.

Like many countries around the world, heart disease is a big problem in Egypt due to diets high in fat and cholesterol. Alaa and Yasmine’s aim is to encourage people in Egypt to make healthier choices for themselves, the planet, and for animals.

The interior of Vegan Kitchen is cool, earthy, and simple. The tables are made of wood and glass with little plants sitting in between.

The food at Vegan Kitchen was incredible.

Cody ordered the lentil mushroom burger with their homemade gluten free flat bun and fresh sweet potato fries. The burger was moist and perfectly flavoured. I ordered the grilled tofu smothered in mushroom gravy served with sweet potato mash. The tofu had a nice smoky flavour and the gravy was perfect. I haven’t had a mushroom gravy  in quite a while, and it was great.

Both dishes were fresh and so delicious. We washed our meals down with a chocolate hazelnut milk shake and a ginger cinnamon milk shake, both made with homemade almond milk.

For dessert we both chose banana splits with chocolate, chocolate hazelnut, and vanilla icecream made with their homemade almond milk.

The only thing missing was coconut whipped cream, but they were still delicious!

Banana Split….It’s been a long time since we had one

We were pretty surprised to find a fully vegan, organic, and gluten free vegan restaurant in Cairo, and extremely happy we made the visit!! We’ll definitely be back next time we visit Egypt!!

The food looks incredibly tasty and knowing you two I know I can trust your judgement. The Banana Split is the cheery on the cake, it has been too long since I had one too 🙂

After travelling Israel we were a little bored with eating Falafel and Hummus o it was great to come across this place. The Banana Split was definitely the cherry on top. Everything was homemade and so delicious.

We were very surprised to find out that it was the first Vegan restaurant in Egypt. Egyptian is very Vegan friendly but this is the first all Vegan place. It’s a must go to when you and Franca finally make it to Egypt.

Welcome to Egypt , new owners of this wonderful Vegan Restaurant !! So happy it is there , as my daughter, Madiha Ashour is Vegan and lived in Sheik Zaid ,and I went Vegan , then stopped, as I ate beans often and it was disturbing my tract , too much gas and so I got bored and quit, am a diabetic, and have to eat enough protein to keep from getting Shingles…we are on a low income so we cannott afford more better foods…but try to buy Organic as much as possible, we avoid the 10 bad foods, and take a Supplent called Youngevity… total 99 nutrients the body must have to survive without so much illness and diseases… Youngevity is on you tube by Dr, Wallach and Glidden, it can be with the supplements and being Vegan all at the same time…I invite you to you tube to see Youngevity…
Thanks for spreading good nutrition in Egypt ! I saw the wrong foods and ws made ill several times as a diabetic… the Doctors there are not the best , and so I nearly went blind as a result , got here to Texas and had eye surgery or go blind in 2 more months…Thanks to God I am not blind and still healing…
I realize that Vegan can cure… and I do not want Shingles again…
I hope in future Youngevity can be sold there freely by request order, like out here, but it can be ordered by sent to you by a partner address in America, and then they send it to you…by special mail…
if you want paintings for your restaurant I can do that, I sold a lot in Egypt I am in a Gallery out here…! Check out my paintings or give me an idea of what you want, no people nor animals, please…!I am not expensive…

Bless you and your VEgan Kitchen !!

      Hey Denise,

Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately Vegan Kitchen is closed now, but the former owner YasmineNazmy now runs Earthly Delights, where she makes incredible plant based food for delivery. We look forward to our return to Egypt, but not to the abuse of animals, it is a difficult thing to bare witness to.
