Vegan Kitchen at Avalon, Koh Tao, Thailand
We found Vegan Kitchen at Avalon through Facebook. The first time we were in Koh Tao we had contacted them and they had written to tell us that they were closed, but luckily our second time around they had found a new location and were open for business.
Vegan Kitchen at Avalon is set in a Thai style wooden house in the hills. Lunch there is peaceful and serene; a nice break from the crowds in the more condensed areas of Koh Tao.
When we visited that day we were a bit tired of ordering vegetable fried rice from every restaurant in Koh Tao, or having to explain to our servers that we do not want fish sauce, milk, eggs, mayo or butter on any of our food (we sometimes get weird looks) So knowing that we didn’t have to worry about what was in our food put us at ease.
The Vegan kitchen at Avalon has a small menu of two or three offerings.
Cody and I both ordered the Smokey Tofu Veggie Cous Cous Wrap. It was amazing and so flavourful, drizzled with a great dill cream sauce that we later found out was made from blended tofu, garlic, and dill.
The large wraps were filled with steamed peppers, mushrooms, courgette, aubergine, onions and pumpkin seeds mixed with cous cous and marinated tofu in soy sauce and pepper, and drizzled with the tofu dressing. All in a homemade wrap with salad and a sprinkling of paprika.
For dessert we shared the Chocolate Coconut Fudge Cake. It was so rich , chocolatey, and warm and made to order.
Avalon is not difficult to find especially if you have a scooter handy. They are past the Koh Tao animal shelter, and right before the big electrical box. You will see signs on the way, they are up a hill to the right.
We look forward to returning again!
At this moment Vegan Kitchen at Avalon does not have a website but you can contact them through Facebook.
