This is Rocky
This is Rocky.
Rocky was found by an employee of Elephant Nature Park, who brought him to the clinic.
He likely suffered a blow to the face with a machete or something similar.
This is Rocky
Rocky is very lucky to be alive, and still have sight in both eyes. The injury barely missed his left eye.
He looks very unwell right now, but he is being well taken care of, and with a little love and compassion he will be a happy little boy ready for adoption. Rocky’s cut was infected with maggots and we spent hours cleaning him and his wound.
Cody giving Rocky some love
Sadly this is not an isolated event. Many animals are victims of violent attacks by angry villagers worried that their chickens will be eaten. Sometimes all it takes is a night of heavy drinking and someone thinking it might be fun to hack a dog or pig in half with a machete.
As heartbreaking as this is, people are working hard to stop this kind of thing from happening by educating locals about sterilizing dogs and cats. The less stray animals wandering around the streets, the less pain and suffering they have to endure. You can also watch our video on the Dog Meat Trade.
Pong and Cody Cleaning the wound
We understand that these images are difficult to look at, but please don’t turn away from the distress of others.
We hope to keep you updated on his recovery. We look forward to him wagging his tail in happiness.
This blog was written two days ago. Sadly, this morning we arrived to the clinic to find out that Rocky had passed away in his sleep. The few days that Rocky was with us he was given so much love and attention. He will be missed.

GOD BLESS YOU guys for helping this little beast. It takes a special soul to be able to witness this kind of horror and not turn away! I will never be able to fathom how a person could hurt an animal on a whim. EVER. Every life is precious. Love you guys. Give Rocky some love for me!
He DIED??
Now I’ll cry.
It was hard to see him pass but we know that he is in a better place and is not suffering anymore. It’s so disgusting that someone can do that and have no problems with it.
AWE……that is touching. Rocky was very, very lucky to have enjoyed his last few days of life with people who loved him and cared for him.
Giselle and Cody, you are both doing such admirable and wonderful work. All the animals you touch receive a little more love and happiness for the last few days of their lives. Even if they live for one more day, that’s one day of their life that is filled with love and affection.
I LOVE YOU GUYS BOTH, MOM/LUCIA
When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals; the fish, the birds and bees.
And when at last He’d finished, not one was quite the same.
He said, “I’ll walk this world of mine and give each one a name.”
And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him until its strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth and in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, “Dear Lord, there’s not one left for me.”
Kindly the Father said to him, “I’ve left you to the end.
I’ve turned my own name back to front
And called you dog, my friend.”
In Loving Memory of Rocky
Awww thanks Dale. <3
Can’t wait to see you two in June!!!
Thanks for sharing this story G & C. I am sorry to hear that he didn’t make but hopefully his story will help with putting an end to this cruelty. He is out if pain now and felt such live in his last days.
My heart just breaks for this little guy. I’m sorry he didn’t make it. But I’m glad he was loved and cared for during his last few days.
We definitely loved him and made sure he knew that.
He was such a sweetheart. Even after what happened to him, he was still trusting and just wanted to be loved.
What originally brought me to Koh Tao was working at the animal clinic there. We saw many similarly disturbing sights. I know the vet there and she’s an inspiration — she singlehandedly neuters nearly every animal on the island! I’m sure she’d love to have you stop by and write something about the work she does there!
Alex, we dropped by there today and it is amazing the work they are doing. De-sexing the animals to keep the population down is a great idea. We looked into going there in May but instead we are heading to Koh Lanta to work at an animal clinic for the month. When we come back to Thailand we will look into more places where we can volunteer.
I am in the mindset that at least he found some sort of peace at the end. At least you guys were there to help.
Poor Ricky, the wound looked terrible! At least he had guys like you around who were taking care of him! He must be in a better place now!!
Like Erica points out at least his last few days were better…thanks to you.
